Time for some Chemical Warfare! The Co-op have made exactly what I need for some serious stain removal!
I have decided the solution to a lot of problems I see around my Home is to get a Twin Tub Washing Machine. In fact in trying to track one down, I have come across a very advanced Samsung Twin Tub yesterday!
The benefit to me, is that I can fill the Machine the night before I do the washing, and soak anything in the actual tub in cold water. Spin that water back into the washing tub, and then check the clothes again. If the stains are out, the whites can go in for the first wash. I like to wash sheets at at least 60 degrees. If I was using a twin tub, I would wash them at 95 degrees.
This takes about 15 minutes for the wash cycle. Time for a cup of coffee! Then the washing water gets spun back into the wash compartment. As I make my own products I know they don’t hold in the Laundry, and don’t need as much rinsing.
It also means the first rinse water can be kept for Washing My Husbands car, or anything that needs sprucing up like the patio stones. The second rinse water can be used to water my garden.
This Samsung Machine comes with a five meter extension pipe to do just this. Sorry that’s an extra, but well worth it to me.
The other benefit of this is being able to do all the washing on one day. Saving having endless washing rituals. It will save huge amounts of electricity and water use. Also the filtration seems excellent, so very few fibres getting into the sewage system.
The spin dryer part works at something like 2400 rpm, and blows air through the laundry. I assume on a dry warm day, I could probably Iron clothes directly from the spin dryer. If they sat in the basket for a few hours, no doubt they would be just right for ironing once I finished the washing.
I decided I needed a proper whirly wheel line in my little garden the other day and have a plan for that too. Along with making a path actually in situ with some concrete stones which I will sort of sculpt and then stain.
Now the downside of this is, Samsung only seem to sell these machines in Hot countries where there isn’t much water, and mostly have servants and house maids. I would probably stump up for the snazzy 14 kilo model, if it comes as 16 kilo, I could probably wash my own king size duvets and pillows in it too.
As the rotor is at the bottom of the tub and not at the side, one assumes it doesn’t have to be filled to the top if there is less washing to do.
I have a very nice Miele Washing Machine and Tumble dryer. If I really got on with the twin tub, I would probably sell them.
So a vote of Confidence all round to Samsung! How do I get one of these machines in Jersey Channel Islands?
I was beginning to think I had OCD. I invited my Jehovas Witness friends into my House yesterday. I enjoy chatting to them. They were saying how persecuted Jehova’s Witnesses are in Russia, and they are considered a terrorist organisation there. Well I pointed out the Orthodox Church Know their Scriptures. They also have a developed Cannon, Liturgy, and follow the Seven Ecumenical Councils. I was thinking Nicene Creed to myself...
Anyway I have always declined invitations to go to their meetings. I am a follower of Christ.
Well the Subject came up of how they view Jesus and the Holy Spirit. It was a God is way up there... Jesus is somewhere but not up there, sort of down at this level, and there is no such thing as the Holy Spirit really and definitely no gifts of the Spirit... So I said what was the point of Jesus being Crucified then if He wasn’t both Fully Man, And Fully God on the Cross in our place? Stunned Silence.
Now here I saw the Bizarre thing, the house is full of dust, hairs, general crap and a lot of disorder today. I have been Spiritually Bombed by housedust. Chaos and disorder. I was also feeling drained clearing it up, so just went for a cigarette and a cuppa.
Well God just told me I need to stop cleaning and pray for my House. This is the Chaos he sees in His Churches. A lot of disinformation, general crap that shouldn’t be there, and definitely a lot of stains revealing themselves.
I washed my lovely sheets this morning, I had brown stains on the moon when I took them out of the washing machine, as though someone dropped tea on them. They definitely weren’t there when I put them in or I would have treated them. I will have to go to the Co-op now to get some powdered Peroxide and wash them again.
So so here goes with the House Prayer, I think I might try making it a House Psalm!
Dear Father Of Order,
Bring Peace to my Home
and Love for each other.
Help me to Clean,
and put all back in place,
I ask this through your Heavenly Grace.
Give me joy as I work,
to honour your presence.
My Home is yours Lord,
To have and to keep,
in good order and service
to invite friends in to share.
Give me the heart to finish the tasks,
that honour You Lord,
and My Husband
in a Home full of laughter.
Strengthen me Lord in each simple day,
and help me to be nicer in every way.
I am sorry I get grumpy,
when doing the chores,
you just reminded me,
this housework is yours.
Banish all strife,
and unkind words,
We are Husband and Wife,
and Eternally Yours
Thanks God for the encouragement. It was feeling an uphill battle, but I guess Moses just lifted his hands high for me to get into the Housework Battle! Heaven knows how this will affect the whole Cosmic Order, but we should be getting spruced up ready for the Coming of the Lord Jesus.
No Pictures with this post... yet.
I am going back to France end of May beginning of June. I will take a Co-op factory Farmed Chicken with me Fresh, and buy a locally reared Farm Chicken And dissect them side by side with photos.
I am issuing a challenge to Co-op :Jersey. Improve the quality of life of our chicken meat.
My Husband came home with two Co-op chickens for £7. Even the dog won’t lick the Chicken off my fingers. If I gave her a French Farm Chicken treat, I can assure you my fingers would be licked thoroughly and nibbled. There’s the difference. The dog knows!
This cheap Chicken I portioned and made up into different meals had more meat on it than usual. I will Explain.
Potioning the Chicken. Legs and Wings off first. There was a significant change in the joints. No distinct cartilage or sinews, but there was a distinct change in the quality of bone and the colour of it. They have had a more complet diet, but no excercise. These Chickens are from a tightly packed shed with no range of movement, or need for it.
The neck was more defined. This means it is able to reach upward. The pen is higher. They are reaching up to drink and stretch upwards. They do not have room to flap their wings or walk about. To any degree. However they are standing up. Their leg joints have developed, the meat is complete mush though. If not growth hormones and antibiotics, these cheap birds have no use of their bodies. They do not peck or scratch or flap their wings. Their wings are clipped as they have no extension on the wingtips.
The breast meat was complete mush. There was hardly any definition between the supreme and the breast. I took all four breasts off, and slipped out the supremes for another meal. I beat them lightly got out the sinew, which is new! At least I found a sinew! I will use this for a dish like a veal escalope. This cut will be two meals.
The four breasts were plumper, but no texture, and no muscle definition. And no colour. My French Chicken has a much more defined and coloured texture in the breast. It tastes like Chicken as well. So four Chicken Breasts. Two made en Pappilote except using the skin from the two breasts to wrap the one pair of breasts. A la Kiev with garlic butter frozen tubes inside where the supreme was. The meat was just falling apart in my hands. It was not meat, just pap.
Two breasts a la Kiev breadcrumbed. One for supper between two of us. I had one slice and could not eat it. My Husband had mine. I just found the meat disgustingly weak. No vitamins from sunshine.
No happy pecking squawking and flapping. Definitely no hanky panky. I would rather eat a scrawny free range egg hen than this poor bird. Gently poached, they are delicious.
I left the skin on the legs and wings and portioned them for roasts. An organic farm bird from my Shop in France would provide 4 meals from Legs and two From wings. The meat is delicious and filling. I simply can’t eat more of the French bird than a few mouthfuls. It is delicious, fulfilling and succulent. The Co-op bird I can’t eat because it tastes wrong. My brain says, ‘Don’t eat it’. Just eat the veg. I just eat a mouthful to look like I am joining in.
The Farmyard bird is like a game bird. I won’t single out the Co-op further. This 2 4 £7 bird deal is probably the best bones in a Chicken I have seen from a supermarket. The poor bird never got a life though. The texture and taste of it is just not Chicken. I would rather pay €25 for my bird in France and enjoy the few mouthfuls I eat, than this excuse for meat the Supermarkets give us. I see meat as an exceptionally good addition to my diet. Not a lot, but high quality and two or three times a week. I want it to be wonderfully tasty. I want to know when I dissect it it has had a wonderful life. I thank God for it. A French Chicken at €25 provides us with approximately 14 meal portions of high quality meat.
Two Co-op Chickens, Of approximately the same size as a French Chicken will also provide 14 meal portions. However the dog will not eat the Co-op chicken from my fingers. Fishy treat yes. Co-op Chicken... not interested. I think this says it all. I made it tasty.
I want to be able to buy Chicken that is tasty in Jersey.
My Husband bought the Chicken... He will be eating it.
I will follow this post up with the dissection challenge in about 5 weeks. In pictures!
I don’t know who’s idea it was to make washing machines that you can’t regulate the number of rinses. Obviously if you use a detergent or Bio washing powder, you are just helping the Chemical companies get rid of their unwanted chemicals. The washing stinks of nasty perfume to make it smell nice, and mask the fact the clothes are full of chemicals and fats that have been dispersed in the water, but not actually rinsed out of the clothes.
I found by using Epsoms Salts instead of Salt in the previous washing recipe, I can activate the detergent out of the fabric, and get rid of it. Never to come near my washing machine again.
I have now found I only need the main wash with the new recipe. I let that spin out, and then advance the rinse programs to only leave one final rinse. This is now sufficient. This cuts the water consumption in half, and obviously some electricity.
I am planning to look out for a twin tub, and go back to washing everything’s on a wash day. It would be far easier. The benefit of a twin tub is recycling the washing water, then as the rinse water is going to be fine for watering my plants in summer, I can get a double whammy from the water and not waste it.
Once I have finished with the washing water, I can use it to wash flower pots and such. I am just getting started on this, I am planning so many creative things to do with the water from washing day. I might even be able to wash the car with it!
I managed to order some 30vol Peroxide from the Chemist to get wine stains out of the dish cloths. I have a nasty tomato sauce stain to experiment on too. I decided boiling my dish cloths in an old saucepan was the quickest way to keep them squeaky clean.
I am also so totally off non stick Teflon stuff. I only bought Circulon saucepans Perhaps 5 years ago and they are only used probably three to six months of the year, so in total use just over two years. The non stick is flaking off and pitted. I always use wooden utensils. I am choosing very carefully what I buy next. These were not cheap either.
I bought a gorgeous new cast iron frying pan. It has a beeswax finish on it. I need to buy some Coconut oil to season it with. Coconut oil is naturally antibacterial. It also has a high smoke point. So ideal I think to season cast iron.
Its a de Buyer pan. Gorgeous. It says it has 1% miracle metal in it... would that be the Enriched Uranium then? Brilliant, Eggs a la Exocet the moment it’s ready to use!
The whole deal with getting off refined sugar is to experiment. I have been pretty much sugar free during Lent. My smell, taste and hearing have gone up not just a notch, but acute.
I have been dreaming of Lemon meruing pie! I made the base with some Heritage Snaptastic Ginger Nut biscuits which seem fine. I don’t get the sugar high/low from them. I used about eight biscuits and a handful of Porrige oats with wheat germ. Then used about 4oz of butter in a small saucepan to bind them together, rather like a cheesecake base.
I made the filling with date syrup, and two lemon zest, one lemon juice. I did give the lemons a quick dunk in hot water and a good wipe, in case there was any wax on them. I made all that yesterday, so the lemony flavour could develop. Then I made the meruing topping with Coconut flower nectar today and baked it.
As a first attempt I am very pleased with the result. The filling went lumpy for some reason, but if the taste is ok I can sort that out. The date syrup does change the colour to a sort of dusky rose, but it should taste like a slightly caramelised lemon. I found I wanted a couple of twists of salt in the meruingue to bring out the flavour of the syrup and the eggyness of the egg whites, also to sweeten it. Bizarre when you leave refined sugar behind. I just can’t tolerate the roller coaster sugar highs and lows.
I never got around to taking a photo of a slice. I managed about four mouthfuls then found it too sweet.. the idea is ok. I need to come up with a different solution for the meruingue. It is meruing, but not as anyone would know it. Then the syrup separated out from it and soaked the pie, so it had a soggy base. I am wondering if meruing cooks without sugar, probably not... perhaps either gelatine or cornflour might set it. I will try with any spare egg whites I might have, and make the meruing separately and slide it on top of the pie. I must have Lemon Meruing Pie!
