I finished the job today in glorious sunshine, I even got down to a T shirt. We even had a bowl of soup at the garden table and still felt warm outside. Friends dropped by to say hello and give us a big hug. A New Years welcome indeed, and so good to see them and chat for a while.
I have settled back into Jersey House life. It seems to take about 5 days on return to feel like doing things. I am pleased with myself for a change, as I started on something yesterday. It was hard to be enthusiastic but good to get the greenhouse job done. I have been promised young tomato plants in about 3-4 weeks time, so they will make an early start. It is so warm I might risk starting off all the February seeds early.
The dog wouldn't come back in before dusk last night then went hunting the minx! I am terrified she will get run over and think the worst will happen if she gets out at night. She has no road sense. She eventually came indoors hungry and exhausted after getting herself a huge rat, which was placed right next to our front door as a present. I found it difficult to get it in a normal size plastic bag. It was only just warm so she had kept it to play with for over an hour.
She was very stiff within an hour. She was covered in mud, so it looks as though she dug it out of somewhere in a bank. It is what she was bred to do. Perhaps it's the alter-ego of some ratbag banker/embezzeller that is just about to get his come-uppance! As I said, it was huge, I don't know if I have ever seen one that big!
The dog walks so proud of herself, and stands so well when she has got something like a rat. She had a fantastic time with it. No point in worrying about her I suppose, if she does get run over at night, at least she would have been doing what she loves best.
I decided the world can't possibly come to an end this year, I had a new bit of guttering pipe fitted today, while we had some other maintainance work done around the place. It feeds into my underground water pit, it would be a disaster not to be able to carry on planning my garden, or planning anything for that matter. I always feel better for having some very productive plans and projects on the back burner. I like getting useful things done.
I haven't realy followed the news for a few days, not tapped into the Kaiser report. I have about half an hour before dinner is cooked so I may just browse over there and see if there is something new brewing.
I don't know why, but I realy feel it is important that The Syrians keep those mercenaries out of their political process, and establish a good political democracy of their own, not one forced on them by western influence. President Assad may not have reformed his position before now, but due process takes some time. I kind of like the look of him, I hope he does stay in power until he can develop a democratic model that is relevent to the country.
I am so fed up with seeing 'other western' influences riding roughshod over smaller countries, or destabilising power to serve their own interests. Most countries should be able to determine their own internal affairs. In some respects a dictatorship is not a bad thing if there is no corruption, and the populace support it. I am not happy about Egypts military still holding on to power and cosying up with outside influence. Mostly American I expect. Hopefully they will end up with so much civil unrest at home, their whole involvement in world affairs will get a big haircut.
Right well that's me putting the world to rights as usual, time to check on dinner.
