Anyway, my wonderful dad took me to see the (French) Rance project just after it had been built when I was 13 years old. I remember him saying 45 years ago in his dreamy far away look when he was imagining possibilities 'This is the power of the future'. I loved, and still love my Dad very much. We are so alike, I never realised it when I was young. He was a brilliant Marine Engineer.
Anyway, recently my husband and I stopped for a picnic lunch on a cliff looking across the bay of Mont St Michelle towards Cancal. I thought then what a possibility to put a barrage across the bay at that point with the latest technology in underwater turbines, and allow the bay to flood and ebb, as there are heritage oyster beds there at Cancal right down to Vivier-Sur-Mer.
Then when I was in the clinic I had a Huge Idea! What if a wall were to be built that could take a train from the northern tip of the Normandy peninsula, using Alderney, Gurnsey and Jersey as markers, then cut through to St Brieu.
I imagined the tunnel made of incredibly strong glass made from all the beaches around the world that have been polluted with plastic, like a ready made polymer!
Then removing all the sand off the deserts and putting it back on the beaches so we have unpolluted sand.
And arrable land back where it was covered up.
We could empty the oceans of plastic, and use it to build 'glass polymer' tunnels.
Trains now travel at over 700 mph in near vacuum conditions. Imagine travelling at that speed across oceans in underwater tunnels.
I thought the sections could be prefabbed and linked together the same way the Mullbery Harbours were towed on site and sunk.
Could be mass transport for the future, and also create more power than the world could ever need to use.
So yes I do have very big and 'Grandiose' ideas when I am high, but I am sure there are so many people out there who have 'what if' ideas. People who use their imagination as an inspiration for some of the most amazing man made creations on our planet that benefit everyone.
Have a great day thinking Huge ideas!
