Finally we have got to the point of replacing an ancient kitchen. A builders grade kitchen which was falling off the walls.
We decided to go for an induction hob as the energy savings and hype convinced us this was the best choice. However during the fitting of the kitchen we decided to by a single ring plug in induction hob to use rather than eating out. It's a nightmare to cook on!
Also the really important part is that you shouldn't use one, or rather get near it if you have a pacemaker. Thankfully we found this out before cutting the worktops for the Induction Hob.
Now having used the single hob for a few days, it destroys food.
I had prepared various dishes dishes to warm through. One of them is our local Bean Crock, a very tasty version of cassoulet. I leave the beans slightly hard, so that on warming through they don't turn to mush.
We did have a portion of the same batch a week or so ago as a quick meal it was lovely. Tonight when I warmed the beans through on no 1 on the Induction plate it was a nightmare. The liqueur that was melting kept catching, and the frozen beans in the middle wouldn't defrost down.
Normally I can happily leave the beans to defrost slowly on no 1 on a halogen hob, and then turn up the heat to no 3 until they bubble nicely for a while.
These beans turned to mush. The starch coagulated out of them, and there was no flavour. Somehow they lost the love I put into them while cooking them for the freezer.
Having eaten a few spoons of these beans, I left them. I rated them alongside microwaved food for taste and texture. Worse still I have indigestion. I am very susceptible to changes in my environment. I feel things, and notice things more acutely than most people.
I will have a bowl bowl of cereal if I am hungry later, and send back the induction hob, and get a ceramic one instead. Our health and wellbeing depends on it.
I don't know why, but this makes me think of the US weapons industry. You can only use their weapons with their codes. Sounds like a case for blowing al lot of money for indigestion.
