There was a very welcome visitor to my plastic grower today, I saw my first bee doing a tour. It just wasn't interested in the squash flowers, or the cucumbers. I just won't try growing stuff in there that needs bees again. All the salads and herbs do well though.
Still trying to get my building project to completion. Can you believe I had to ask to have the panel heaters changed. On closer inspection they were rusty scratched and dented. One was actually broken. I said I could not accept them, the electrician said 'Oh, these were some we had in the store'. I am passed being speechless! I came up for a new adjective... it's 'Scoundrelism'.
Anyway I have sorted out a lot of things today. The Dog is very nose out of joint when it rains, and is pestering me to play. Lovely she has settled just under my chair.
I like ironing, think I might just tidy up a bit as I need some space to start making another mess with some dressmaking.
I can't decide if I want to resize the clothes I have. I am more inclined simply to start from scratch and design a whole new winter wardrobe. I could do with a new image.
I have some gorgeous quality fabrics collected over many years. The older ones are fabulous quality. Some Dormeil wools, and pretty stuff. I do actully like taking things to peices and re-making something else out of them. It isn't so much to save money, it's just satisfying, and that kind of fabric isn't made any more. I like retro looks with a slant to them.
I love quality fabrics. Also clothes have no warmth in them these days, and with colder weather coming up, and heating costs going up so much, it is good to have clothes that are lined and layered. So long as the design is funky and original they are lovely to wear.
I think if I was investing money right now it would be in a thermal underwear company! I was amazed at how comfortable the Helly Hanson ladies thermals were for our Norway trip. We were stood outside in minus 30 plus, stargazing. Obviously had jeans, and then a thermal trouser on over the top. I didn't feel a thing. My Arctic Boots are good to -30 with the silver thermal lining and only cost about £78. Dead funky, so I am well pleased with them. They are very comfortable, they are made in vietnam by Columbia.com.
Why can't we manufacture in the UK? What is the point of buying 'cheaper', when good quality is so much better value. My Favorite brown boots are Carvella that I bought 20 or so years ago... in a sale... I have had them re-soled and heeled about 4/5 times now. This costs between £20-30 and I get them done at the local bootmenders.
This is good for island economy, as to buy anything here from the national companies means the money leaves the island.
They are a riding boot look and the leather is fantastic, and I love cleaning them, they just look superb. It's not so easy to get good boot polish so I use dubbin on them every few times. These will have to be part of this look this year, as they are ideal for 'The Hat'. I might see if I can make a fur cuff for them, as I have lost weight, I might be able to line them with fur layer too.
I wonder if Helly Hanson would make something prettier for ladies, it would be useful to have a lower cut or v neckline version. I might look at their website. If not I will get a couple more, and alter the ones I have got.
And that Racoon Hat! I think I need to design around this hat, so I am kind of thinking along the lines of a jhodpur/flying/hunting look. Not sure how this is going to work with the boots, so it's just floating about in the back of my mind right now.
Well this is as far as my inspiration runs to today, which is always a good sign of being inspired to develop the wardrobe in a day or so.
Have a good day everyone, just think it will soon be Chrismas, so start making those pressies for this year!
I just found my dictionary, so hopefully my spelling might get better again. It feels like having the flu without a dictionary. I have real difficulties sometimes with spelling. My worst word is iron. I actually have to say i-ron as I write it. I think it ought to be spelt iorn, because thats how I say it. It just doesn't look nice spelt like that though.
It's time for bed if I am wittering!
Wouldn't it be a relief if everyone just stopped fighting round the world and had a day off tomorrow. Still the newspeople would have a bit of a news vacuum. They would only put re-runs of prevous fighting on. I think thats why I like RT. they do all sorts of programs on places round Russia, and who lives there and what their customs are. Pity about all the re-runs of warfare.
Wonder what the world would do with all the arms and amunition if everybody just stopped fighting each other. Nah, huge comanies have too much vested interest in selling arms and ammo. That's why we get lots of wars, they get sneaky old governments to fix up a war here and there if the sales orders are a bit thin on the ground.
I might get around to varnishing some of my paintings and flog them on e-bay. If the guy on the Kaiser report is getting rave reviews over his burning bank pictures, which were ok in the symbolism department, but a bit scruffy in the art department, I might get a few quid for mine. Good flames though.
Not high on my priority list right now, so I will post on here when I get around to it. I have got high quality christmas cards of two of my icons. I could start with those. They look lovely in a frame. I still haven't worked out how to list something on e-bay and get paid for it, so I will have to phone a friend on that one.
Sweet dreams everyone.
