God is quite right. If I truly wanted to give up smoking, I could substitute my obvious addiction for an addiction to His Bible. The thing is, I am already addicted to the Bible! Also I am not sure exactly if I love God’s Holy Bible in the sense that Tyndale gave up His life for it. I think it is more that Every time I read the Bible I am hit between the eyes with a new revelation, or a New Understanding of God. The unfathomable depths of revelation. I will have to ponder on this one.
I would be able to say that I Love Jesus. I Love Jesus. I Love Jesus...
Do you know I even Love saying I Love Jesus! I also know for sure, that Jesus Loves Me. Jesus Loves Me, Jesus Loves Me...
Just imagine throwing a little pebble in a huge still lake, and seeing all the ripples vibrate across the surface. How much does Jesus Love Me? An endless ripple of waves, that lap the very shores of the Universe, Throughout the Heavens, and even to the very depths of hell and Human Nightmare and Suffering. There isn’t anywhere, or anytime that I could go, or be, that Jesus could not Love Me. That Jesus couldn’t rescue Me. That Jesus couldn’t redeem Me. Jesus Loves Me. I Love Jesus.
Jesus can break any addiction, cast out any of our demons, heal all our sickness, redeem us to be a spotless Bride. All of us Christians together form The Bride of Christ. The Flock of His wonderful pasture. The very Cherished and Holy Taskforce of the Universe! We are better like the coals on my little fire. Put a few of us together and we create a lot of warmth. One of us on our own just doesn’t have enough ‘Body’ to create a Hot Fire.
Actually I suppose a Church is very like lighting my little fire. I have to empty the ash first, just from the pan underneath. This is to make sure there is no obstructions to a good drought of air coming up through the grate. So we have to keep our lines of communication to God open. These are the spiritual gifts God has given the Church to fan the flames.
Thinking about it, I got an instruction sheet on how to light the fire, and how to care for it. I will just describe what I do, because these are the instructions. So this is what God’s Holy Bible is. The Instruction Manual! I don’t love the Instruction Manual so much as the Lovely Fire and the warmth of it. Caring for it, and cooking on it. I always have hot water in a kettle on it, just in case I want to make a cuppa for myself, or someone dropping in, or wash up. It’s a side benefit!
So I give the grate a little clean, and check to see if there are any coals still alight. Then I give the glass a little clean. I have developed a habit of spitting on the glass and giving it a rub with the first bit of newspaper I am going to lay on the fire. This is quite scriptural too. Jesus spat on the earth and formed some mud to put in a blind man’s eye. He formed an eye from the ground. Like we were formed from the dust of the Earth. Jesus also gives His Church a good clean up in every generation!
Anyway, I carefully empty the ash into a galvanised bucket. Yes it does puff up a bit, and I do need to dust, and clean up any that falls. God said in the Old Testament that those who clean the ashes from the sacrifice are unclean. Yet the ashes were what were used for the old cleansing from sin. I get a few grubby marks on me at this point, but they come out in the wash!
Depending on whether there are coals still lit, I prepare the new fire. If it’s completely out, I build the fire in the firebox. If there are coals lit, I prepare the new paper, kindling and log just by the side. Check all the vents are open, and then lay the fire. Pop the scrunched up paper, kindling and logs in quickly if there are coals, and lay it a little more slowly if not.
The Instruction Sheet for the Fire says to use ten pieces of newspaper, and ten pieces of kindling. I couldn’t help thinking right from the start that this was like the Ten Commandments as a foundation for my Fire. I did a piece on the Ten Commandments somewhere earlier on this blog. Then a very nice kiln dried log. I ask God to bless my Logs and Coal!
If there are enough coals alight the fire lights up almost immediately, but if not I use an extra piece of paper as a spill, and light it with my lighter. yes the one I use to light my cigarettes!
Shut the door on the log burner and sit in front of it marvelling how the fire goes up like a rocket stove.
It takes fifteen minutes and then I put another good log on. Then five minutes later, and shut down the vents.
Depending on what time I lite the fire, I make a pot of coffee in a bialetti for my Husband and I, and pop it on just after lighting the fire. The coffee is made by the time I shut down the vents!
So when revile comes to the Church, it I started because of God. He gets everything ready beforehand, gives the Church a spruce up. Use some the same procedure every time. Gets his firefighters lined up, makes sure there’s is fuel, and allows the very fine mechanism to do its job. He also gives the Church a purpose. Which is to open its doors and welcome people. Make sure the Coffee is on, and there is food in the pantry to give to people.
In previous revivals of the Church, God has given us the tools to deal with all sorts of problems. It’s worth checking them out, they are fascinating.
This revival is going to be about debt. The Church already has CAD in place. That is Christians Against Debt. Check it out, it’s an amazing movement. Obviously there are a lot of other things the Church can offer, but this one is the real deal!
You never know how God is going to do something. You can be sure He will though!
Anyway God was showing me something about time refraction this morning. Just reminding me that He is Eternal, and that He can pop up Anywhere, and that He can do Anything!
Anyway I am off to get that galvanised bucket. The New day is Dawning. The Birds are singing, and all is well with the World.
