This is not a short sighted policy like the UK.
Our laws are based on medieval French, and our Advocates must study at Caen to get the necessary qualifications for our courts. Many of our old laws and documents have to be translated using this 'Old French'. Our courts can't function without it.
Our courts ar red hot on following up dodgy money! We do our best. Many funds are repatriated.
Now that many Asian and Far East countries want to use Jersey instead of London, we need more Lawyers and Avocates for the trust companies and processes. This benefits the French too.
We also want to try to get the new underwater turbines installed off Alderney, and around the Channel Islands. So I guess this is a bit of palm greasing to help us help the French get permission to place the turbines in our waters.
Its all good! Good for our students, good for our economy, and an ultimate phase out of the nuclear reactors at Flammenville. They are bringing a new reactor online soon. Still if the Marine project can produce sufficient energy it won't be needed. It's not a good project the new reactor anyway, they will have loads of problems with it.
