The one site that has not been put up for discussion is the Land Government House stands on. It’s ideally situated within the town ring road. It could be built into the Hillside with parking underneath, and the ambulance and emergency lot would have access from all over the Island.
Two thirds of our population live in St Helier and apart from a small slope, most of them would be able to walk there. The obvious problem is the Esablisment who think Government House is an immovable object.
In fact Government House belongs to the States of Jersey. We wouldn’t even have to buy the land. Also the actual Government House is a decrepit bit of Architecture that needs a fortune spent on it for upkeep. It also has some nice trees in The garden which need preservation orders on them.
I doubt Her Maj will visit again, and I am sure Prince Charles and Camilla would prefer better plumbing, and a decent view of the sea. I vote we find a new Location for Government House, With a great view, an eco friendly footprint, and decent bathrooms. Turn the present Gov House into an Art Gallery, and build a decent Hospital in the one vacant plot in St Helier.
I did mention it before to a couple of people, but of course no-one takes me seriously!
