Mr Lavrov pointed out today that Europe caused the Ukraine fiasco by trying to make it choose between East and West. I think that is a very good summation.
Also that the EU are about to do the same thing with the other two states they want to annex. I think Mr Lavrov is well worth listening to.
I rather think Russia has already committed a lot of investment in The Crimea. (Nice Bridge)!
It is getting a makeover as a fabulous holiday destination for the Russians. It is probably going to become a huge conference centre for the Belt and Road initiative too. Somewhere to entertain foreign investors. It looks very nice. A bit out of my price range. I wonder if it would be nice to cruise round those parts in a few years, Cruising and escorted tours mean not having to get Russian Visas.
The French seem to be reigning in their supermarkets this week. Well done Farmers.
No more two for one offers. Weird when three for two is still going to be allowed. May as well just go to Lidl and buy in bulk and share out between friends. I like Lidl in France. You never know what you will find.
The Supermarkets are going to be allowed to charge 10% more for food. This means if the Supermarkets have a decent margin, and the Farmers are paid a good rate the food quality should go up. We should be able to see a lot more organic meat coming down in price. I don’t mind paying more for meat and dairy if the animals are treated with great respect. People will just have to value their meat more, eat less of it per serving, and not waste any.
The same goes for veg. I prefer fresh veg in season, but having frozen peas and beans all year round is very helpful. The French do very well with their frozen food. It’s ideal for two people not to have to buy a huge amount that goes off. Then we only cook what we need. You get wonderful lettuce in France all year round.
I was very disappointed with some veg soup packs we bought. The problem was they were packed in twos. The ingredient list was hidden in the packaging. I took one mouthful of the soup and nearly spat it out. It was sweet. I went and got the packet out of the bin and it actually listed sugar as an ingredient. 8.7g of sugar per hundred Grams. That’s the equivalent of two heaped teaspoons of sugar in a mug of tea. I was horrified. It was disgusting to my tastebuds.
You just don’t expect sugar in soup. Now that my Husband has had His cataracts done, he can’t read small print on packaging. My Husband has a deep affinity with the supermarket. He loves food shopping. I am very spoiled, because I get bored quickly. I am not really into browsing. I am lazy about the checkout as well.
I think if I had to look after myself I would rather use the village shop in France and go every couple of days. Besides we are doing this increasingly, as our little diagonal is very good. It’s lovely to be served by people who say hello and to be able to have a chat at the meat counter. We use it as well, because as they say, if you don’t use it you lose it. It’s a very convenient and useful little supermarket.
Well today is the new car day. My Husband said he would go and pay for it, but I said I wanted to buy it for Him. (Minus the cost of the prang to the front). He has taken himself off to the insurer to decide if he is going to claim on His insurance, or just pay for it Himself. There is a point to be made here!
Its a late Valentine’s Day Present. After all, He bought me a wonderful new oven. I can’t wait to go back to our French House and put a duck on that rotisserie. Then not have to spend ages cleaning the oven. It just makes me feel squiggly thinking about it. Pig in shit sort of feeling. Like I said, better than a lottery win.
I ordered some Borax substitute off Amazon this morning. I am going to make all my own cleaning products from now on. I was using bar keepers friend on the bath, but I still get a reaction from the smell.
The dog dog still has a cough. She is taking antibiotics for a few days. We will probably need to take her back to the Vet tomorrow. It’s a Nasty cough.
