I am not surprised we have reached a global crisis point. I am getting fed up with using the phrase 'tipping point'. I would use 'flipping point' right now. We have already 'tipped', it's time to put the show back on the road, and get the rotten financial profiteering attitude of every conglomerate bank and oil/power producer and the like, well and truly pruned back.
Instead of investing further in trying to discover new oil fields, it is time to invest that money in real advances to our way of producing power, and the way in which we live. That to build ever bigger cities, and to become so 'urban' we don't know how to grow food, let alone have anywhere to do it, and have to rely on ever increasing distribution networks to maintain an ever increasing urbanised lifestyle is not a sustainable future.
The simple fact is that mega cities anywhere in the world are a pariah on resources. That if Sir Christopher Wren could design beautiful living spaces centuries ago, why have we become so 'rat trapped' into accepting over population of small spaces that are well known to cause social decline?
It is possible to build 'mini cities' for a maximum of a hundred thousand inhabitents within a ten mile radius. that are designed for high quality of life, rather than high density productivity. Planning for interlinking high speed trains, and well organised public transport. Building around parks, and shared allotment spaces for people who prefer to live in apartments. To build houses and apartments that produce energy to the grid. To build for and use all waste to create energy. To re-introduce canals as a viable means of moving heavy goods, and get so many lorries off the roads. To simply allow inconsiderate urban sprawl anywhere is a nightmare.
That each new mini city can have it's own civilian honorary constable force the same way we do here in Jersey, which compliments paid policing. To have Territorial Forces, bringing back the requirement that everyone has to do a year of Territorial training between 16-19 years old, before continuing in education or employment. Let the over cosseted darlings see the world at the government's expense for a gap year! No further education without it! That for those who wish to continue with the Territorial Forces, would be an excellent way to reduce the cost of huge full time Forces.
I would suggest unplugging all electronic means of buying and selling on stock markets with a remote algorithm that simply tracks fluctuations and then gets its dibs in before the real human trend can be seen, this is forcing the markets to behave in very unpredictable ways.
I think it is likely that this technology has actually taken over from the human choice. I think this technology is actually forcing these crisis and fluctuations. Doing any trade on stock markets has become a game of loaded dice. I would not buy or sell anything in stock and shares, or anything to do with the whole stinking rotten scam of it.
There are so many paper companies, who are just set up to trade figures through so that they become ever more difficult to track down. I still think the only investments to make are in actual tangeable goods. Not even hints and promises of large oil field discoveries... remember that ostrich scam!
How would anyone really know if there was oil in a field, how much and how long it could be used for. Surely this Oil ought to be kept as an emergency resource for the planet?
Probably come back and witter on a bit more after I have dug up that bag of soot.
Ha, got the soot out without spilling any. It stank. In the meantime I decided to use my little patio dish fire to start carefully burning through these bindweed roots. Then had a blinding flash.
I wondered how to get the soil temperature up enough to cook all the rest of the little bindweed roots in the soil I am digging through. So I typed in (cook soil) into Google and came up with this immediately.
I had already discounted toasting it over a fire as it would kill the good stuff. This seems perfect.
Thankyou Robin. I am building a soil cooking plant right now. I will take some photos and put it on the garden blog. Actually, if the soil gets that hot, a bit of hosepipe snaked through it and plugged into a heat recovery system might be a good idea... Aka growing pinapples in cold climates in raised frames with a pit of rotting horse manure under it. Apparantly lasts two years, and then you dig the manure out and put it on the garden. Saw them at Helligan. Like it!
I do like a good plan. I can only try it out, I have nothing to lose by shifting the ground into the cooking area for a couple of months, and leave where I am going to put it back dug out to see if any more bindweed comes up from lower down. I don't mind giving this a dose of Glyphosphate, and then building framed/raised beds over the top of the treated ground well underneath. I am liking this even better. A very good plan.
The only plastic I have at the moment is areated, but once I have got the cooking area built and wrapped with that, I can find some more plastic sheeting to go over the top. And yes I have already used the stuff I have got once! I will be scavenging at the dump for the plastic to go over the top!
Besides all my water buts need emptying, I have a bad dose of wiggly mosquito larvae in them. Must get them covered. We are supposed to have rain at the moment but it's lovely and sunny. If i get the buts all emptied and cleaned today, they can fill up with nice fresh water when it does rain.
Lovely Jubbly, might call my self Compo for the day. I deserve a bacon and egg lunch for this.
It is surprisingly calming and spiritual sifting through earth. I have hand sifted about 8 bucketfuls so far. I am giving the wigglies a break and throwing them in the hedge, and lovingly keeping the worms to put in my compost heap.
Back to this global money thing. I think if there was an audit on every registered company, and every scrap of electronic money was tagged, which I assume can be done, because it is just an algorithm after all, every scummy underhanded, illegal, drugs running, arms dealing, money syphoning scam could be nabbed, and their internet connection and hardware cooked, and all their money permanently deleted for a change!
I object strongly that rich people, and global companies have the resources to set up a paper trail of companies all over the world so that they don't pay tax. That means all us on low incomes anyway have to pay far more tax proportionately than very wealthy people.
If we weren't all living such stressed lives packed into cities, eating food that has been gassed to keep it from going off, so it just goes bad before it's ripe, we would all be healthier, and wouldn't need vast quantities of tranquilisers, alcohol, and illegal drugs for those that resort to them, just to make oblivion more tolerable that actually being awake in this nightmare.
Well it's 6 o clock now, so thats pobably 9 hours of gardening today, and 8 of them sifting ground. This was definately an old rubbish tip. Nails, plastic, glass, more plastic... I am carefully sifting it all out of the topsoil which goes down surprisingly deep. I have done enough for about one 8x4 framed bed at about 12" deep today, and the setup I have made will take about the same amount of ground before I water it to soaking, and wrap it up oven ready for a couple of months. Didn't smoke much today either, so it must be good for me to do some work for the soul as well as to provide some classy veg next year.
Probably all I am going to put on this today, so have a great evening everyone, and a very nice sleep, waking refreshed is a great feeling. God Bless
