It is unimaginable to have Boris Johnson as the PM of Great Britain. Still it is about to happen as I am tapping away here. They have all messed up The Queens trip to Balmoral. They will all go off for their summer break the political lot.
I don't know if people in Politics will go back to bearing some resemblance of Statesmanship and good manners. It all looks rather like a bad soap opera from every angle.
I still don't want to leave the EU. I want to see some reforms to the EU that smooth out the problems for everyone, and then everyone get along very well again. Well better than before!
I am sick of hearing rhetoric and financial promises that are three years out of date. The UK won't get a better deal than being in the EU.
If the changes that could and have been made in the EU could be described clearly, perhaps some people would think differently about leaving.
My Gut feeling is that Boris will fail miserably. He has bluffed and gaffed his way to the top. There is only one way to go from here. I have an impending sense of doom that some dreadful new bit of scandal will surface. This might get the UK embroiled in a huge dust up in Parliament over how fit Boris is to be PM. Then there will be a general election. Perhaps Labour will get in.
However my hope is some kind of real move to back LIB DEMS to get another Referendum on the cards. One with Scrap the idea of leaving and stay in the EU as the viable option. The other option of leaving the EU and being subjected to bleached chicken just does not figure in my ability to formulate an alternative!
If Boris does indeed drag the UK out of the EU under any circumstances, I think it will be a very short road to the Scottish deciding to get themselves out of the union and re-join the EU. Boris is the one who is likely more than ever to upset divide and offend, than unite anything, patch up this horrid mess of bad feeling between both sides, and as for being the face of British Government...
I have an image in mind of a cartoon Hippo in a tutu trying to cross a huge canyon on a high wire with too much slack to be able to stay on it... I don't think anyone can afford to cut Boris Johnson any slack in this job. Part of me wants to be proved wrong about Boris, but I guess that's how he keeps getting away with rising to the top.
I am betting on the first big Gaff within 24 hours!
