I am am so impressed with those I have seen being interviewed, and taking the microphone at rallies.
In the midst of yet another dreadful massacre, and an awful trauma of losing friends, and being subjected to a terrifying ordeal, these young people are a glowing testimony to their education, and strong family values. I would encourage them all to go all the way with their demands.
Young people have an energy that is not corrupted by finance, and the blackmail of politicians by corporations.
That the Florida lawmakers did not even vote to debate the Gun Laws is scandalous. That they were willing to pass a law about pornography to protect young people’s minds, but not their safety seems quite ludicrous. Yes I agree pornography is perniciously undermining society, but guns and knives do more than that. They rupture the fabric of society in a way of violence, constant fear, and loss of personal freedom. Not to be able to go somewhere safely is a direct loss of personal freedom.
America has a problem with guns, The UK has a problem with knives. Both are leaving parents with the loss of their children. The anguish of losing a child must be unbearable. I have not had children, mine is a sense of loss of never having a child. To have a child and lose them to violence is unimaginably intolerable. The life of grief ahead of every parent that loses their child through a violent act of war, or street violence a crushing and endless grief.
I was appalled that President Trump is mooting that Teachers in the USA should become weapons experts. This is the mentality of the US. Simply respond to violence with more violence. To create violence. To create the need for and desirability of weapons. To have Teachers in class with guns sends a message of endorsement. Every child will be receiving gun training next, and expected to carry a gun to school.
With the Internet possibility of holding remote schooling in children’s homes these days, perhaps if I were a concerned parent, I would Home school my child until the Gun Laws are changed. I don’t think aa child should have to go to school if they are in danger. The youngsters spend ages on social media, perhaps they could turn that around and become the greatest force for change the world has ever known.
You young people need to equip yourselves thoroughly with the history and facts surrounding the Gun Culture you live with. Then hold debates online to hear each other and to come up with solutions.
Only you young people can change the way the world works. You will have a vote soon, you will be able to enter politics. You need a ‘Youth Party’. A very serious movement that can lobby and change the way things are done. Be guided, but don’t be dissuaded. Stick together.
If you simply stop stop buying guns and knives, and do not get tempted. The longest term solution is never to buy a gun. One day no-one will own one. Just work out the maths, how many years will it take if your generation did not endorse gun ownership and never bought a gun or weapon?
Look at other places in the World where there is no desire to own guns. See what advice their children can offer you. Let them tell you what it is like living and growing up without a gun in the house, or the knowledge that no one they know owns one.
Have the courage of your convictions, and change the political climate of your World, as well as dealing with the mistakes of previous generations on affecting Global Climate. We oldies are giving you Young People a huge job to do.
I think its time the policy makers not just listened and put all our concerns and wishes aside as the electorate, (and future electorate), they worked for the interests of people again, and not the big corporations.
Its not just The USA Gun Laws. It’s a worldwide problem with very many issues that get swept aside due to corporate interests.
As the electorate, our biggest voting tool is the money in our pockets. What do we spend it on?
In this instance not buying Guns at all, will make the whole nasty business collapse. Demand gun amnesties and make sure these guns are melted down. Make some amazing sculptures of them to remind ourselves on every street corner, that owning a weapon does not make you safe.
If your politicians won’t do anything about legislation, try picketing every gun shop. Stand outside them with those placards. Shame on you handouts to every person who comes to buy a gun. Give them pictures of your friends who have been killed. Pictures of all the children who are killed at home by handling guns. That is the hidden tragedy. Children who find a gun in their house and shoot themselves or their siblings by accident.
