We were invited fishing on our friend's boat yesterday afternoon. Normally this is a men only affair. It was a perfect afternoon for it. Sunny, sparkly, with a tiny swell. It is so good to get a different perspective of where we live on the Island, a real sense of strangeness, and a whole different perspective. Sadly we didn't catch anything but one Garfish. My Husband caught it. The Mackerel must have been round the other side of the island. It was beautiful to be out on the sea, and I enjoyed every minute of it.
Our friend gave me the number of a small works/repairs builder. This general builder is going to come and look at my wall on Tuesday. The kitchen is only three years old, and I am hoping that I will not have to replace the whole kitchen! It took a battering with the previous tenents, but is not awful. It just needs new plinths, new flooring, and some TLC. I realy need it to go on for at least another two years before I consider replacing it. Obviously as it is not brand new, it gets reflected in the rental value of the flat.
I actually think I might be in a good position to rent this quickly, as with the recession, perhaps many people might consider downgrading from the more expensive flats with sea views and balconies.
I have to be positive... I am sure someone has the skill and 'can do' attitude to repair this wall. I just had visions of the whole wall collapsing, and causing a lot of damage. It is definately a job for a professional.
At least he will have all the right equipment to do this job. Here's hoping and praying it all turns out OK.
I watched Max Kaiser after waiting for it to download. I just never realised what a dreadful substrate there was behind the woes of our economy. I suppose it's a bit like this wall I need to fix. The Lath and Plaster method of construction was probably the finest way of working with the materials available in the time the property was built. A Lath and Plaster wall is very good at sound and heat insulation considering it's construction. It was built to last. It was built with care and craftsmanship. It could be patched correctly if damaged, by a competent crafsman. It is just not compatible with modern finishes.
It is sickening that the genuine working population are held to ransom as slaves to a banking system that is just self serving profiteering bandits. These privateers don't care about the havock they cause to people who just want to earn an honest living, have families and enjoy life. They are social wreckers.
As with all unsociable behaviour, until there is a real understanding of the mechanism of these fraudulent means of trading, there isn't a way of legislating against this paractce. If it is evedent already that trading at such high speed by advanced technology undermines the stability of 'real trading', which is there to manage pension funds and legitimate reserves, then the simplest thing would be to make it illegal, and to simply 'pull the plug', before total collapse.
Better to come up with a structured removal of as much toxic debt, dismantle the shadow banking system, and alleviate the burden of overborrowing by damage limitation, than simply keep trying to paper over the wall to hold it all in place. Once the substrate is genuine it would make sense to deal with the standard of living (the decor).
It is time to do the right thing for the right reasons. If that means that people who know they are responsible realy come clean, and explain what has become an endemic within a very complex system, perhaps they also know the real solution to getting the ship back on a good course, and not sailing so close to the wind all the time it just stalls. As My Father used to say, 'Put yourself on the right tack'. You can't actually sail a ship from one point to another, when the wind is not in your favour.
Perhaps there needs to be a real sense of shame at the work of simply stripping real value from everyone's lives. If you do this to someone else it impoverishes your own value as a person.
The simple natural law is that in doing something that damages anther person, it will also have a multiplied damaging effect throughout your imediate society. If there is damage within the immediate society it reverberates across neighbouring societies who then have to deal with a fracture pattern not of their making. Eventually those fratures reach to global proportions and systematic collapse begins.
The towering gargantuan of the folly of greed is about to come crashing down!
